Fort Bend County Judge KP George Convicted of Laundering $46,500 in Stolen Campaign Donations Into His Own Bank Account
ABC13 Houston (KTRK)
Published: March 20, 2026
A jury convicted KP George, the elected County Judge of Fort Bend County, Texas, of two felony counts of money laundering on March 20, 2026, following a unanimous verdict after roughly four hours of deliberation. Prosecutors told the jury that George lied about what was actually in his campaign fund following his 2018 election and failed to disclose its true contents, then transferred $46,500 of it into his own personal accounts. Special prosecutor Brian Wice explained the charge's basis plainly: money laundering applies when funds obtained through unlawful activity are moved or transferred in a way that conceals their origin. Prosecutors said George spent more than $45,000 of the undisclosed campaign funds on personal expenses, including a down payment on a house, property taxes, and retail purchases — using money his own donors had given for his political campaign to cover his personal life instead.
On June 16, 2026, a judge sentenced George to six months in the Fort Bend County Jail, five years of probation, and 200 hours of community service, and ordered a $25,000 appeal bond on each of the two counts; his sentence will not begin until his appeals are exhausted. He was also stripped of his signing authority over county documents. He has since returned to preside over Commissioners Court pending his appeal, and county commissioners separately authorized an internal review of his conduct in office.
