Georgia Superior Court Judge Bert Guy Resigns After Trying to Bribe a Driver With $500 Cash to Avoid Police at a DUI Crash Outside a Strip Club
Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Published: October 16, 2025
Brunswick Judicial Circuit Superior Court Judge Robert "Bert" Guy Jr. was arrested on October 7, 2025, after backing his Mercedes-Benz into a pickup truck in the parking lot of a Jacksonville, Florida strip club. Rather than exchange insurance information, Guy allegedly offered the other driver $500 in cash to keep police out of it. When officers arrived, Guy repeatedly refused to hand over his ID before being arrested and charged with DUI, DUI-property damage, and refusing to submit to a breathalyzer.
Guy, who also served as president of the state's Council of Superior Court Judges, resigned from that leadership role within days of the arrest becoming public, and submitted his resignation from the bench itself to Governor Brian Kemp roughly a week and a half later.
A sitting judge offering cash to make a police report disappear, then stonewalling the officers who showed up anyway, is the same conduct a judge would sentence a defendant for — not a private lapse with no bearing on the office.
