Eric Schieferdecker, a Ninth Judicial District judge in Minnesota, was found by the state Board on Judicial Standards to have reasonable cause of committing misconduct in his interactions with Bidal Duran Jr., who was a sheriff's deputy at the time and was later elected as a state representative. The complaint arose from Schieferdecker's handling of search warrant applications Duran submitted in a felony drug possession case, alleging Schieferdecker showed an "intimidating demeanor, partiality, lack of fairness, and bias and prejudice" against Duran and law enforcement officers generally.
The Board entered into a deferred disposition agreement with Schieferdecker rather than issuing a formal public sanction. Under the agreement, Schieferdecker is on a two-year probationary period; if he complies with its confidential terms, the Board will issue him only a private letter of caution once that period ends.
