Scott A. Norrick, a Madison Circuit Court judge in Anderson, Indiana, was charged by the Indiana Commission on Judicial Qualifications with four counts of misconduct: three counts alleging inadequate supervision of his court staff in processing case entries and orders, and a fourth alleging he violated judicial canons by failing to properly take action in approximately 40 criminal cases. The Indiana Supreme Court found Norrick had erroneously issued a change-of-custody order, failed to adequately supervise his staff's handling of criminal case processing, and presided over cases in which he and his son were the attorneys of record. The court found this violated Indiana's judicial code of conduct requirements to avoid impropriety, perform judicial duties competently, and properly supervise court staff. He was suspended without pay for 45 days, from June 3 to July 18.
