Tommy Mourounas Suspended

Tommy G. Mourounas, a magistrate for Florence County, South Carolina (Effingham), was suspended by the South Carolina Supreme Court in June 2024 after he repeatedly failed to report for duty at the Florence County Magistrate Court. The Court characterized the "dereliction of duty" as "an unacceptable affront to the fair administration of justice and the courts" and suspended him from his magisterial duties, without compensation from the county, until further order of the Chief Justice. A subsequent Supreme Court order went further: Mourounas was barred from courthouse grounds without prior authorization and a police escort, and prohibited from accessing, altering, destroying, or canceling any public records or judicial databases and case management systems.
