Florida Supreme Court disbars ex-Miami-Dade judge, accusing him of 'fundamental dishonesty'
Local10 (WPLG)
Published: July 13, 2024
Miguel Fernando Mirabal, a former Miami-Dade County Court judge, was permanently disbarred by the Florida Supreme Court, which cited a "deliberate pattern of dishonesty." The dishonesty predated his time on the bench: during an unsuccessful 2018 campaign for a county judgeship, Mirabal repeatedly certified campaign finance reports he knew were false (reporting over $110,000 raised in 2017-2018 when he had actually raised approximately $28,335), and he failed to disclose a ~$532,100 Monroe County foreclosure in his 2019 and 2020 financial disclosures during a judicial nominating commission application. The Florida Supreme Court also found he committed further misconduct during his own disciplinary proceedings, including intimidating a judge who had filed a Bar grievance against him. Mirabal was elected to a Miami-Dade County judgeship in 2020, took office January 2021, and resigned in April 2021 while under investigation. The disbarment took effect August 10, 2024.
