New York Judge George Meyers Steps Down After Sexual Harassment Lawsuit From His Own Court Clerk
Times Union
Published: September 26, 2025
George Meyers Jr., a justice of the New Windsor Town Court in Orange County, New York, was suspended on September 23, 2024, amid a joint investigation by the state Office of Court Administration and the Commission on Judicial Conduct. The suspension followed a federal workplace gender-discrimination lawsuit filed in February 2024 by senior court clerk Patricia Tarsio, who alleged that starting in 2021, Meyers sexually harassed her with repeated inappropriate comments about her appearance and invitations to meet after work hours, creating a hostile work environment, and then retaliated against her after she formally complained. The Town of New Windsor later approved a confidential settlement of Tarsio's lawsuit. Meyers stepped down from the bench effective December 31, 2025, ending the misconduct probe into claims he mistreated staff and retaliated against colleagues who raised concerns.
