Nevada Justice of the Peace Jim Loveless Reprimanded for Being Intoxicated Twice While On-Call for Police Search Warrant Requests
Nevada Commission on Judicial Discipline
Published: June 24, 2024
Jim Loveless, a Humboldt County, Nevada Justice of the Peace, was publicly reprimanded by the state Commission on Judicial Discipline after admitting he was intoxicated on two separate occasions in December 2022 and January 2023 while serving as the on-call justice of the peace — a role in which he was contacted by law enforcement for search warrant requests. Loveless admitted the conduct violated multiple provisions of Nevada's Code of Judicial Conduct, including the requirement that judges comply with the law and act in a manner that promotes public confidence in the judiciary's independence and integrity. As part of the resolution, Loveless agreed to continue alcohol counseling and follow his counselor's recommendations, and committed to completing a 30-day inpatient rehabilitation program through the Veterans Administration after leaving office.
