Corey E. Klein Censured

Long Beach City Court Judge Corey Klein took the microphone during public comment at an April 2024 local school board meeting to challenge the board's decision not to name his son valedictorian. When the school district's attorney tried to interrupt, Klein told him not to "try to outlawyer me" and insisted on being addressed as "judge" rather than by name. Board members ultimately cut off his microphone as he continued. In a separate matter, the New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct found Klein had also invoked his judicial office to benefit an acquaintance in a traffic case. The Commission censured Klein for both incidents -- invoking his judicial title in a personal dispute over his son's academic standing, and separately using it to help an acquaintance with a traffic matter. Klein agreed to the censure rather than contest it.
