Dallas Judge Gena Slaughter Reprimanded After Appeals Courts Had to Order Her Twice to Rule on Pending Motions
Dallas Morning News
Published: February 26, 2024
The Texas State Commission on Judicial Conduct publicly reprimanded 191st District Court Judge Gena Slaughter on February 7, 2024, for letting motions in a 2018 civil lawsuit sit pending for months without ruling on them. An appeals court had to intervene in 2020 to order Slaughter to rule on the outstanding motions — and had to step in again in 2022, after she failed to rule on six additional motions in the same case, some pending for more than ten months. The Commission separately found Slaughter failed to cooperate with its own investigation, repeatedly not responding to its inquiries. This was not Slaughter's first discipline from the Commission. She had previously been sanctioned for late rulings, for not maintaining an active Texas law license, and for failing to timely file her own campaign finance reports with the Texas Ethics Commission.
