Erin Gall Removed

At a graduation party in New Hartford, New York in July 2022, a fight broke out involving a group of uninvited guests. Police body camera footage captured New York Supreme Court Justice Erin Gall making racially charged, profanity-laced remarks toward a group of Black teenagers and threatening to shoot them if they returned to the property. Gall also invoked her authority as a sitting judge in an effort to get the uninvited guests arrested. The New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct found Gall's conduct "created at least the appearance that she harbored racial bias," undermining public confidence in her integrity as a judge. The Commission recommended her removal from the bench. The New York State Court of Appeals suspended Gall with pay in July 2024 while the removal proceeding continued. Gall ultimately abandoned her challenge to the Commission's removal recommendation, opting to resign rather than pursue an appeal.
