New York Judge William Futrell Should Be Removed for Posting Nazi Imagery and Objectifying Women on Facebook
New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct
Published: December 21, 2023
William H. Futrell, a Justice of the Montezuma Town Court in Cayuga County, New York, was determined by the state Commission on Judicial Conduct to warrant removal from office after posting Nazi imagery on his public Facebook page and publicly "liking" pages that denigrated and objectified women. In April 2022, Futrell posted an image of a human skull nearly identical to the Nazi SS/Totenkopf insignia used by WWII death's-head forces, with the letters "FF" (for "Futrell Firearms") styled to mimic the "SS" abbreviation. He also posted a meme depicting Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg dressed in Nazi military garb, including a Totenkopf medal and Schutzstaffel insignia. Futrell resigned his judicial office effective February 28, 2023, months before the Commission's determination — dated December 12, 2023 and made public December 21, 2023 — was issued.
