New York Judge Daniel Furney Resigns After Invoking His Judgeship With State Troopers on a Suspended License
New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct
Published: February 02, 2026
Daniel L. Furney, the longtime Justice of the Lee Town Court in Oneida County, New York since 2010, resigned effective January 30, 2026, while under investigation by the state Commission on Judicial Conduct. The Commission had notified Furney in November that it was investigating a complaint alleging he "gratuitously invoked his judicial office" during two separate encounters with New York State Police — once during a traffic stop while allegedly driving on a suspended license, and once in a parking lot. Furney was scheduled to testify before the Commission as part of the investigation and instead submitted his resignation, cutting short a term that was not due to expire until the end of 2029. As part of his resignation, Furney agreed to never again seek or accept judicial office.
