Emily T. Spear Admonished

The California Commission on Judicial Performance publicly admonished Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Emily T. Spear for a pattern of misconduct while assigned to the Family Law Division at the Compton Courthouse in 2021 and 2022. The Commission found Spear took numerous unauthorized and undocumented absences and early departures from court, made disparaging remarks about a judicial colleague, was discourteous toward — and made false statements to — her own supervising judge, and manipulated her court calendar for personal benefit. Spear appears to have lost her seat in the 2024 election. A Metropolitan News-Enterprise editorial at the time of the admonishment argued she was "unworthy of her post."
