Eloy Vera

Eloy Vera, the Starr County, Texas Judge, was fined $2,000 in civil penalties by the Texas Ethics Commission after it found he committed four campaign finance violations. The Commission found Vera used county facilities and equipment to produce a campaign video that was posted to Facebook, constituting improper political advertising, and separately cited him for late filings of campaign finance reports and an improper appointment of his campaign treasurer. Vera told the Commission the late filings were oversights and that the treasurer-appointment issue followed what he described as standard local practice of filing the appointment with the county Democratic Party. The Commission's orders and agreed resolutions were issued June 29, 2023.
