Scott DuPont Removed

The Florida Supreme Court unanimously removed 7th Judicial Circuit Judge Scott DuPont from the bench in June 2018 after finding he violated the Code of Judicial Conduct during his own re-election campaign. An investigation found DuPont fabricated false criminal records about his opponent's wife and daughter and posted them online without verifying the information — then repeated the false claims during a televised debate, doing so against the advice of his own campaign manager and despite warnings from two other judges. The Court also found DuPont violated judicial canons in his actual courtroom conduct: during a child support hearing, he had a bailiff search a father and confiscate $180 the man said he was holding for someone else, and he changed the scheduled time of first-appearance hearings to accommodate his own campaign schedule.
