Kentucky Judge David Curlin Reprimanded and Suspended From Practicing Law for Ignoring Bar Complaints
Kentucky Supreme Court
Published: August 22, 2025
David Curlin, a Family Court judge for Kentucky's 51st Judicial Circuit in Henderson County, was publicly reprimanded by the Kentucky Judicial Conduct Commission on August 22, 2025, after failing to respond to two bar complaints concerning his conduct before he took the bench, and failing to adequately answer formal charges issued against him by the Kentucky Bar Association's Inquiry Commission.
Separately, the Kentucky Supreme Court indefinitely suspended Curlin from practicing law in September 2023 after he failed to respond to those underlying bar charges, temporarily restricting his ability to serve as a Family Court judge, since Kentucky judges must hold an active law license. In April 2025, the Kentucky Supreme Court granted a consensual discipline agreement imposing a one-year law license suspension, with 90 days to be served, retroactive to the 2023 indefinite suspension.
