Judge Tiffany Baker-Carper made a horrific decision that directly led to a small child getting murdered. Daniel Spencer had just been convicted as a sexual predator in her courtroom — a known predator, convicted right in front of her. Baker-Carper released him pending sentencing and sent him back to a home where his 5-year-old stepdaughter was living. Weeks later, Spencer murdered that child.

There is no defensible reading of this decision. Baker-Carper knew exactly what Spencer was — she oversaw the trial. And she knew a child was in that home. She released him anyway, knowing he would be staying in that same home with a 5-year-old child. This was not a judgment call. This was a failure of the most basic duty a judge carries: protecting the public from known monsters that the court has already found guilty of sexual predation on children.

Missy Mogle was five years old. She was killed by a man the judge thoroughly knew was a convicted predator and still chose to release him directly into that little girl's home. Governor DeSantis has called for Baker-Carper's impeachment. The Florida legislature passed Missy's Law specifically because of this decision. Baker-Carper later recused herself from Spencer's murder trial — not voluntarily, only after the defense forced her hand.

Judge Tiffany Baker-Carper should be impeached and should never sit on a bench again.
